Many Clouds features among superb field of seven for bet365 Charlie Hall Chase

Some of the country’s leading staying chasers clash in the £100,000 Grade Two bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.05pm) over three miles at Wetherby tomorrow, Saturday, October 31.

The seven-strong field features last year’s four-length winner Menorah (Philip Hobbs/Richard Johnson) and Grand National hero Many Clouds (Oliver Sherwood/Leighton Aspell), both of whom are having their first start of the season.

Many Clouds is out to buck a trend for recent Grand National winners. Bindaree, who triumphed in 2002 and captured the following year’s Welsh Grand National, is the last Aintree scorer to win a race subsequently.

Sherwood said: “Looking at the recent statistics of National winners, I’ve got no chance of winning a race with Many Clouds this season!

“I will let people make their own mind up but I am very happy with him and Wetherby looks the right place to start. He is not 100 per cent tuned up and will improve whatever he does.

“I am pleased to see a drop of rain as that will inconvenience others more than us but most of mine are just needing a run and I wouldn’t want a bog.

“The Hennessy is his first objective this season and the Grand National is his main target, so there is a long way to go.”

Bet365 make 2014 Ryanair Chase hero Dynaste (David Pipe/Conor O’Farrell) and Cue Card (Colin Tizzard/Paddy Brennan) 7/2 joint favourites.

Dynaste returns to fences, having finished ninth in a Grade Two hurdle at Auteuil in France earlier this month, while Cue Card is bidding to recapture the form of his three Grade One triumphs in 2013 after having last season disrupted by a wind problem.

The line-up is completed by Cheltenham Gold Cup fourth Holywell (Jonjo O’Neill/Richie McLernon), Ballynagour (David Pipe/Noel Fehily) and Sam Winner (Paul Nicholls/Sean Bowen).

Bet365 Charlie Hall Chase – bet365 bet: 7/2 Cue Card, Dynaste; 5/1 Holywell, Many Clouds; 6/1 Ballynagour, Menorah; 14/1 Sam Winner
Each way ¼ odds 1-2

The £40,000 Grade Two bet365 West Yorkshire Hurdle (2.00pm) sees 2012 Champion Hurdle hero Rock On Ruby (Harry Fry/Noel Fehily) tackle three miles for the first time.

The 11/4 favourite faces eight rivals including fellow Grade One winner Grumeti (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson), who caused a 50/1 shock in the Cesarewitch last time out, plus Grade Two scorers Closing Ceremony (Emma Lavelle/Richie McLernon) and Kilcooley (Charlie Longsdon/Richard Johnson).

Bet365 West Yorkshire Hurdle – bet 365 bet: 11/4 Rock On Ruby; 7/2 Grumeti; 6/1 Aqalim; 7/1 Kilcooley; 8/1 Closing Ceremony; 10/1 The Druids Nephew; 12 No Planning, Splash Of Ginge; 25/1 Goldan Jess
Each way ¼ 1-2-3

High-class chaser Ma Filleule (Nicky Henderson/David Bass) and Intense Tango (Karl Burke/Brian Hughes), a Grade Two scorer at Doncaster last season, clash in the £22,000 Listed OLBG Mares’ Hurdle (2.30pm, nine runners).

The two-mile contest is the first in a series of races which concludes with the Grade One OLBG Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Earlier on the card, exciting prospect Zeroeshadesofgrey (Neil King/Trevor Whelan) makes his debut over fences in the Novices’ Chase (1.25pm, seven runners) over three miles.
