A P McCoy’s saddle among over 40 tremendous lots on offer at charity lunch ahead of Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Race

The Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Classified Stakes (3.35pm) takes place for the sixth consecutive year on the opening day of the 2015 Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, Wednesday, September 9, J20 Spritz Leger Legends Day, at Doncaster.

Supported by the Reuben Foundation, the charity contest has raised over £500,000 in the last five years and is aiming to generate at least another £100,000 in 2015.

The Flat race, run under the Rules of Racing, is set to witness 20-time champion jump jockey A P McCoy, who retired in April, make a one-off return to the saddle with his 15 opponents due to include former top Flat jockey turned trainer Johnny Murtagh.

Staged over Doncaster’s straight mile, the Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Classified Stakes is run in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund’s Jack Berry House and the Northern Racing College.

There is a charity lunch and auction beforehand, for which all 450 tickets have been sold. HRH The Princess Royal, who is a Patron of the Injured Jockeys Fund, will be in attendance.

Seven lots will be offered in a live auction before the guests, with the remainder in a silent auction.

Among the tremendous lots on offer at the live auction are:

A P McCoy’s Final Race Saddle
The saddle, which A P McCoy will be use in the Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Classified Stakes, is likely to be the last saddle that he uses in in a race under Rules. A P will also sign the saddle at the end of the race before presenting it to the winning bidder, where a photograph will be taken.

Jack Berry MBE said: “I would like to thank everybody for their support in getting Jack Berry House to this point and I am very proud of the service it offers to racing in Malton and the surrounding areas.

“The generosity of people in providing the auction prizes will help to raise money that can be used to continue the fantastic efforts of all those who have made it such a success.”

The newly-arrived Chief Executive at The Northern Racing College, Colonel Stephen Padgett OBE, declared: “The Leger Legends is a tremendous event and its contribution to the great work that goes on at the Northern Racing College is significant.

“We are very grateful to all who have put so much effort into preparations, including our friends at Doncaster Racecourse, to the generous donors of so many fantastic items for auction, to the Legends themselves, the great jockeys who have committed to ride on September 9 and last, but by no means least, to the trainers who will provide their mounts.

“We are all looking forward to a marvellous day!”
